BREAKFAST and lunch provided by in-house chefs, group fitness activities and free meditation sessions — employees at this Aussie company describe it as a “home away from home”.
With a unique “vibe” that encourages each team member to “look forward to coming to work every day”, Canva, a graphic design software company based in Sydney’s Surry Hills, has been named as Australia’s coolest technology company for the second year in a row by jobs website JobAdvisor.
In addition to the seemingly now-standard office bar, Canva offers free gym and yoga memberships, overseas trips, flexible hours and even “elaborate” celebrations such as releasing doves when it hits goals.
Canva co-founder and chief executive Melanie Perkins said one of her biggest priorities was creating a company where her team feels happy and “motivated to do the best work of their lives”.
“Some people say Canva has a lot of perks,” she said.
“We do, but this misunderstands why we invest so much in our team and where we work. A happy, focused team is going to be able to get more done, take bigger risks and have a lot more fun along the way then one that is stressed and feels as though the company they work at doesn’t care about them as humans.
