Immigration Director-General Sakib Kusmi revealed this on Thursday (May 26) when asked to comment on Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s statement on Monday in regard to the issue.
According to Mr Sakib, the covert activities had reached a serious level warranting harsh action.
“The Department has identified the individuals involved, but the investigation is still ongoing and the outcome will be announced when the time comes,” he said.
Without disclosing the number of individuals involved, he said the culprits would be dealt with pursuant to regulations stipulated for civil servants. Mr Sakib said the police were aiding the investigation.
On Tuesday, a task force headed by Home Ministry secretary-general Alwi Ibrahim was formed to probe the implementation of the system. Mr Alwi said the team was gathering documents to identify weaknesses in the system’s implementation.
